Julie Smith-Treida served as a Marion County Deputy Prosecutor for four years. During her tenure at the Prosecutor’s Office, she represented the State in over one hundred trials and contested evidentiary hearings. She has worked closely with several different law enforcement agencies, including the Indiana State Police, the Marion County Crime Lab, and the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, serving as a liaison between a Narcotics District and the Prosecutor’s Office. Mrs. Smith-Treida has comprehensive experience in litigating the merits of search warrants, determining the strengths and weaknesses of cases involving narcotics and the operation of a vehicle while intoxicated, the use of expert witnesses, the juvenile delinquency system, and the negotiation of plea agreements.
Since joining Pence Hensel in 2011, Ms. Smith has successfully represented criminal defendants in federal and state court. Mrs. Smith-Treida has obtained the dismissal of prosecutions against defendants who have been charged with misdemeanors and felonies including allegations of alcohol related offenses, criminal trespass, battery, domestic violence, and conversion or theft. Mrs. Smith-Treida has also assisted clients in obtaining expungements, setting aside default judgments, and obtaining or retaining their professional licenses. Mrs. Smith-Treida is a member of the Criminal Justice Panel Mentoring Program.
